Two celebrities in the upcoming Frankie Howerd drama visited the comedian’s Wavering Down House in Cross to prepare for their roles.
Little Britain star David Walliams and Rafe Spall, who appeared as DC Andy Cartwright in Hot Fuzz, met the comedian’s long-term partner Dennis Heymer in readiness for Frankie Howerd: Rather You Than Me, which will be aired on BBC Four in the spring.
Youngsters from the village came along to meet the stars and Kings of Wessex pupil Joe Taschimowitz, who is working towards his Duke of Edinburgh award, documented the event with video and photographs.
The 60-minute drama will show Walliams as Howerd coping with his inner demons, as witnessed by Heymer, who will be played by Spall, son of actor Timothy Spall.
Chris Byrne said: “It was spooky when David put on Frank’s coat and hairpiece in his room and a true likeness was revealed.
“David remarked how honoured he was to be sitting on the very couch that Frank died on.
“Meeting Dennis, Rafe Spall commented to him that he had been briefed by his father that Dennis was actually more of a legend than Frank.”
Now Mr Byrne and Mr Heymer will visit London in a few weeks time to see the set, which is next to the Eastenders studio, and hope to meet Dot Branning and Pat Evans actresses, June Brown and Pam St Clements.
